INTRODUCTION
The ASEAN Online Forum on the Future of Work gathered policymakers and experts from across the region to address challenges shaping the future of work. The forum focused on breaking barriers for persons with disabilities (PwDs) and advancing inclusive human resource development (HRD) strategies, particularly for women and informal workers.

Commitment to Inclusivity and Innovation
San Lwin, Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN for the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community (ASCC), reaffirmed ASEAN’s dedication to inclusivity. He emphasized the importance of collaboration and innovation in building a resilient and prosperous workforce for all member states. Similarly, Park Yoon-joo, Minister of the Republic of Korea’s Mission to ASEAN, highlighted the forum’s role in fostering knowledge-sharing and shaping inclusive workforce policies.
Key Discussions on Inclusive Workforce
♦ Day One: Empowering Persons with Disabilities
The first day focused on removing barriers faced by PwDs in accessing the workforce. Discussions emphasized the role of digital transformation and assistive technologies in creating equitable opportunities. UN ESCAP shared examples of companies using remote work solutions and accessible technologies to support PwDs.
Accenture emphasized embedding accessibility in digital transformation as a cultural shift led by visionary leadership. Case studies from Virtualahan (Philippines) and Vulcan Coalition (Thailand) showcased how technology and community-driven initiatives empower PwDs. The ASEAN Disability Forum called for placing PwDs at the center of workforce transformation efforts.
♦ Day Two: Strategies for Women and Informal Workers
The second day focused on inclusive HRD strategies to sustain productivity. Discussions explored redefining productivity and improving work-life balance for women. Flexible work arrangements and strategies to empower women were shared by organizations like the ASEAN Women Entrepreneurs Network, the Gender Development Association (Lao PDR), and the Center for Development and Integration (Vietnam).
For informal workers, panelists from the Employers’ Confederation of the Philippines (ECOP) and the Employers’ Association of Indonesia (APINDO) stressed the need for fair wages, social protection, and skills development to address systemic challenges.
