STRENGTHENING ASEAN-RUSSIA SOCIO-CULTURAL COOPERATION: A PRODUCTIVE DIALOGUE

INTRODUCTION

On December 10, 2024, Deputy Secretary-General for ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community (ASCC), H.E. San Lwin, met with the Ambassador of Russia to ASEAN, H.E. Evgeny Zagaynov. Their productive discussion aimed to strengthen ASEAN-Russia cooperation, focusing on key social-cultural topics such as environmental protection, public health, disaster management, and humanitarian assistance. They also explored potential collaboration in areas of youth engagement and cultural exchange.

ASEAN-Russia socio-cultural cooperation

H.E. San Lwin, who took office as the Deputy Secretary-General for ASCC on November 1, 2024, brings over four decades of diplomatic experience to his role. He has previously served as Myanmar’s ambassador in various countries, including Austria and the Holy See. His leadership will guide the ASCC’s efforts to promote a caring, sharing society within ASEAN, in line with the ASCC Blueprint 2025.

The discussion between H.E. San Lwin and Ambassador Zagaynov underlined their shared commitment to deepening the ASEAN-Russia socio-cultural partnership, especially in tackling global challenges and fostering people-to-people ties.
