PLENARY SESSION OF THE 19TH HIGH-LEVEL TASK FORCE MEETING ON ASEAN COMMUNITY’S POST-2025 VISION

INTRODUCTION

The 19th High-Level Task Force Meeting on the ASEAN Community’s Post-2025 Vision (HLTF-ACV) took place in Vientiane, Lao PDR, on December 10-11, 2024. Co-chaired by the Lao PDR and Malaysia, the meeting gathered officials from ASEAN member states, Timor-Leste representatives, and the ASEAN Secretariat.

Key Discussions of the Session

  1. Finalizing the APSC Strategic Plan: Delegates completed 98% of the draft APSC Strategic Plan, a crucial component of ASEAN Vision 2045.

  2. Enhancing Strategic Coordination: HLTF-ACV collaborated with HLTF-EI, ASCC task forces, and ACCC to align development efforts across ASEAN community pillars.

  3. Engaging ASEAN Youth: The task force worked with ASEAN youth leaders, underscoring their role in building ASEAN’s future.

Key Proposals

– Strengthen coordination mechanisms within ASEAN to improve strategic measures and eliminate redundancies.

– Promote digital transformation and innovation to drive economic growth and social development.

– Implement inclusive policies and sustainable practices to combat climate change and reduce inequality.

Looking Ahead

The HLTF-ACV will convene its 20th meeting in January 2025 to finalize strategic plans for adoption at the 46th ASEAN Summit in May 2025. These efforts highlight ASEAN’s commitment to fostering a resilient, sustainable, and globally relevant community while addressing regional and global challenges effectively.
