STEP GRATE COMBUSTION CHAMBER: EFFICIENT MULTI-FUEL TECHNOLOGY FOR THERMAL APPLICATIONS
Step Grate Combustion Technology is widely used in thermal systems like saturated steam boilers, superheated steam boilers, thermal oil heaters, hot water boilers, and hot air generators. This technology is ideal for burning a wide range of fuels, including those with high moisture content, low calorific value, irregular size, and alkali-rich ash that tends to melt and stick.

1. System Overview
Martech provides a comprehensive solution that integrates the combustion chamber design and other key equipment to optimize costs and ensure system consistency. Our system is built according to international standards, combining expert calculations, design, fabrication, and installation by experienced engineers. This approach boosts system efficiency, which can exceed 85%.

2. Multi-Fuel Capability
Our Step Grate technology supports various fuels such as biomass, industrial waste, and municipal solid waste. The system is adaptable to different fuel types by adjusting the grate’s surface area and temperature to meet the required heat capacity. The grate’s dimensions (length and width) are tailored to optimize the available installation space and combustion residence time, based on the fuel’s characteristics.

The combustion efficiency ranges from 93% to 97%, depending on the type of fuel. We consider typical parameters, such as 45% moisture content and 10 barg pressure for biomass, when determining grate size.

The combustion chamber’s airflow rate is adjustable across five burning zones on the grate, allowing for flexible operation as fuel characteristics change. The design also accommodates all combustion stages, including drying, volatile release/pyrolysis, char burning, and heat recovery/cooling of slag.

3. Grate Solutions
We offer two main great solutions:
– Air-Cooled Grate: Suitable for fuels with a calorific value between 6-14 MJ/kg. This cost-effective solution is perfect for biomass and high-moisture waste, providing stable operation.
– Water-Cooled Grate: Ideal for fuels with a calorific value between 7-30 MJ/kg. While this solution comes with a higher cost, it offers enhanced durability. It is suitable for biomass, waste, RDF, SRF, and industrial waste.
