“Carbon neutrality balances CO2 emissions and absorption, requiring measurement, reduction, and offset efforts to combat climate change and ensure sustainability.”

CARBON NEUTRALITY

Journey towards a green future

INTRODUCTION

Carbon Dioxide (CO2), a major greenhouse gas, holds the highest concentration and is the main cause of global warming. This leads to severe consequences for Earth’s ecosystems, making the goals of Net Zero and Carbon Neutrality more urgent than ever.

What is Carbon Neutrality?

Carbon Neutrality, also known as Carbon neutral, is the balance between CO2 emissions from production, transport, and CO2 absorbed from the air. This is usually achieved by reducing or offsetting carbon emissions.

Why is Carbon Neutrality an urgent goal?

At COP 24, Germanwatch released the 2019 Long-Term Climate Risk Index report, highlighting increasing climate change impacts without timely action. Vietnam ranks in the top 10 countries most affected by climate change. These challenges make Carbon Neutral a crucial, urgent goal.

How to achieve Carbon Neutrality?

Achieving carbon neutrality requires efforts from governments, businesses, and individuals. Key steps include:

  Measure – Calculate CO2 Emissions

Measuring and understanding carbon emissions from production activities helps identify sources and areas to focus on reducing.

  Reduce CO2 Emissions

  • Use renewable energy: Invest in solar, wind, and hydropower to reduce reliance on fossil fuels and lower CO2 emissions.

  • Save energy: Optimize production and transportation processes to reduce carbon emissions.
  • CO2 Storage: Use CCS technology to capture CO2 from emission sources and store it safely.

  • Recycle and reuse: Promote recycling and reuse to reduce waste and CO2 emissions.

 Offset CO2

  • Buy carbon credits: Purchase carbon credits from emission reduction projects to offset your emissions.

  • Invest in emission reduction projects: Fund projects like reforestation to reduce CO2 emissions.

CONCLUSION

Carbon Neutrality is essential for mitigating climate change and protecting our planet’s ecosystems. By measuring, reducing, and offsetting CO2 emissions, governments, businesses, and individuals can work together towards a sustainable future. The urgency of this goal requires immediate and collective action to achieve a balanced and greener world.
